DESCRIPTION
Scholastic Literacy Pro Library contains more than 1000 fiction and non-fiction titles which have been designed for K-7 students. This resource allows teachers to easily differentiate their reading program by assigning students books based on their reading level, interests and more. Some of the tools that help to support individual reading needs include word recognition and pronunciation, audio playback and word highlighting.
DISTRICT APPROVAL
- This resource requires a signed Technology Tool Consent form for student use in the Surrey School District
- This resource is approved for K - 7 classroom use in the Surrey School District
- Surrey does not have a district license for Scholastic Literacy Pro, but schools can acquire class licenses via the Purchasing department
TOOLS & FEATURES
Assign books to students/groups of students based on multiple filters.
Catalogue filters include: Lexile/guided reading level, interests, target reading skill, genre
Audio playback option
Hi-low books (high interest books to support struggling readings)
Word recognition tool to identify word definition and pronunciation
Students and teachers can send written or audio messages to each other
Students are automatically loaded onto teacher accounts
Provides reading data: assigned books, completed books, total reading time
PROTECTION OF INFORMATION GUIDELINES
Personal information from both teachers and students is collected by this platform. Accounts can and should be anonymized. A common, generic password can be used for all students. Canadian data is stored in Montreal, though the Privacy Policy says it could be transferred to the United States. The District General Consent should cover this. A Privacy Information Sheet with suggested risk mitigation strategies is included below:
