Developing mathematical identities is an essential part of learning and doing math, which helps students feel like they belong in a community. Through establishing instructional routines, facilitating rich tasks, and discussing the true nature of mathematics, you can begin to build a community in which all students see themselves—and their classmates—as mathematicians. In this session educators will learn instructional strategies and practical ideas to engage learners in thinking and communicating mathematically as part of a classroom community.
