Instructional routines are specific and repeatable designs for learning. Their predictable structure lets students—and teachers!—pay less attention to “What am I supposed to be doing?” and more attention to mathematical thinking. These routines capture the attention of students and prepare them for the lesson ahead. In this workshop, participants will explore and discuss a variety of routines that engage all students in Curricular Competencies—the doing of mathematics here in BC. Each of these routines can be be implemented across different grades (or courses) and mathematical content.
