Spark Reading is a digital library of 800+ titles for K – 6 intended to ignite the love of reading with exceptional books reviewed and vetted by teachers and students. The library was curated for Canadian schools with strong connections to curriculum topics and pedagogies. Meaningful filters allow searches for books by topic, curriculum connections, text forms, or key words. This resource provides student choice of reading material while offering teachers the ability to recommend books to individual readers.

Spark Reading includes 131 decodable books. Inside Spark, look for the filter called “Decodable Books”. Click on the filter to look at the scope and sequence, then select the set that aligns with the phoneme/grapheme you are currently teaching. Select a book for whole class instruction or individual student reading and practice.

Zorbit's Math Adventure

Zorbit’s Math Adventure is a game-based platform that includes an individual student interface as well as offline activities and lessons. Unlike most “math game” platforms, Zorbit’s is designed to deepen student understanding of mathematical concepts, while also engaging their Mathematical Competencies. The platform is available in English and French and includes all strands of the BC Primary Curriculum.

Knowledgehook is an “instructional guidance tool” that is designed to facilitate the use of Formative Assessment to guide planning and instruction. It includes individual student interfaces with the ability to assign individual or group activities. The premium version includes enhanced features for identifying gaps in student understanding and supporting and measuring progress. Knowledgehook is designed to be supplemental to the instructional math resource used by the classroom teacher. The activities are visual, interactive and highly engaging for students.

MusicplayOnline

MusicplayOnline is a versatile teaching tool that supports active music making through offering lessons, lesson planning, and songs (including scores, lyrics and accompaniment tracks), and uses both Orff and Kodaly paths. The teacher license also gives students a code which gives them access to educational games, interactives, instrument programs, etc.

Français en Images Digital is a French picture dictionary resource divided into three sections: vocabulary, grammar, communication, and strategies. Teachers can project and annotate every page of the book and work with the material without Internet. It has very colorful images with embedded audio tracks to aid with pronunciation.

Yabla is an online resource with videos, short shows, music, interviews, documentaries and lessons in French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, German and English with option for subtitles in these languages. Padlet is a tool that allows learners to collaborate online by posting text, images, links, documents, videos and voice recordings on a virtual board. There are many creative uses for this platform, from brainstorming ideas to using it as a formative assessment tool.

MathUP

MathUP is a platform, written by Marian Small, that empowers teachers by offering rich learning activities for students that cover the entire BC Curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 8, supported by an extensive professional learning library for teachers. MathUP licenses are good for the perpetuity of the resource and serve one teacher or classroom. It includes features like planned pathways for learning (including pathways for combined grades), success criteria and lesson plans. Rich learning, discussion and deep understanding of concepts are encouraged through 3-part lessons, open questions and investigations and a variety of activities, tools and information for students, teachers and parents.
