TECH FAQs

What is the best way to hold a virtual event? Should I use a Teams meeting, a Teams webinar, or a Teams Live Event?

Teams has 3 options for online sessions:

  1. Meetings
  2. Webinars
  3. Live Events

When is the best time to use each of these options?

Meetings are best for sessions that are interactive, with multiple people talking and/or presenting during the event. By default, all participants are able to turn on their cameras and microphones. Maximum number of participants: 300

Webinars are best if there are a smaller number of people who will be talking and/or presenting and most of the participants are just watching (all non-presenters are "attendees" by default). With webinars, you can disable all of the attendees' cameras and microphones (in the meeting options) and only designated presenters are able to speak and present. Also, you can create a custom registration page so that people can sign up for your event. The audio and video quality of a webinar is the same as a regular meeting. Maximum number of participants: 1,000+

Live Events are best for large gatherings where there are a small number of people who will be talking and/or presenting. By default, attendees do not have the option to turn on their cameras or microphones. Only presenters and producers can talk and/or present. Live Events are more like watching a TV show than participating in a meeting. The audio and video quality of a Live Event is better than that of a regular meeting or a webinar, but be aware that there is a 20-30 second delay between the time something happens and the time that the audience sees it. Maximum number of participants: 10,000

***Note: Live Events and Webinars can only be created by admin. If you are a teacher and would like to use these features, please ask your admin to create the events for you.
