WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Writing instruction in intermediate grades is a complex endeavor.  Through this initiative, small school teams of intermediate classroom teachers will collaborate to clarify understandings, as well as build capacity and confidence as teachers of writing. Teams will explore learning opportunities that mentor texts and conferring routines provide to writers, contextualize these possibilities within their classrooms in a sustainable way, and collaborate with peers on design of lesson sequences that respond to writers’ strengths and areas of yet to be met potential.

Team resources include A Teacher’s Guide to Writing Conferences and A Teacher’s Guide to Mentor Texts as well as access to a large lending-library collection of picture books. All team members participate in the virtual sessions in the series.  Two release days are provided per team for participation in the DEC learning sessions.

Sessions will be virtual through Teams from 2:45-3:30pm on October 2, November 27, and February 26.

The in-person sessions are 8:45am-2:30pm on October 7 and January 23
