Writing instruction in intermediate grades is a complex endeavor. Through this initiative, small school teams of intermediate classroom teachers will collaborate to clarify understandings, build capacity and confidence as teachers of writing. Your learning intentions will reflect the writing goals specific to your class but will take shape through the lenses of mentor texts and conferring routines. You will explore learning opportunities that mentor texts and conferring routines provide to our writers, contextualize these possibilities within your classroom in a sustainable way, and collaborate with peers on design of lesson sequences that respond to your writers’ strengths and areas of yet to be met potential.

Your team’s resources include a small collection of mentor texts (fiction and non-fiction) as well as a copy of both A Teacher’s Guide to Writing Conferences and A Teacher’s Guide to Mentor Texts. All team members participate in the virtual sessions in the series. Two release days are shared between 2 members of your team. To express your team’s interest, please complete this Form.
