Schools are invited to co-construct a place-based numeracy inquiry with support from Numeracy Helping Teacher Jess Kyle and Racial Equity Helping Teacher Amanda Anderson. Key components of the inquiry will include: exploring how numeracy and math live in important spaces in and around the school grounds (What math lives here?), incorporation of First Peoples Principles of Learning, construction and use of provocations for learning and culturally responsive active learning.
Supports provided will include: co-planning and examples of place-based pedagogies, in-class modelling and co-teaching, outdoor learning studio materials. Specific details of the shape and timing of the inquiry, as well as if the studio space will be on or off site, will be decided upon as part of the application process.
Participating schools are required to have a team of at least 3 teachers and an administrator committed to leading the project at the school.
