This virtual workshop is for grade one teachers to explore assessment tools for foundational skills and early reading and writing. During this hour, we will briefly consider efficient and effective measures which inform your instructional planning, small-group formations, and progress monitoring, including:
- considerations for culturally relevant assessment practices
- holistic approaches to learning about your students
- ELPATS: Early Literacy Phonemic Awareness Tool Surrey, a recently revised phonemic awareness assessment tool to uncover skills children mastered throughout kindergarten and skills not yet mastered in need additional instruction and practice in grade one
- Oral reading fluency measures to monitor how/if foundational skills are intersecting
- CORE/SD36 Phonics Survey to pinpoint skills to teach
- Quick reading observations and writing conferences
