WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

What language and literacy skills make the most impact on our learners’ success throughout the early primary grades?

Throughout this virtual mini-workshop, primary teachers will learn about a K-2 continuum of early literacy skills developed and explored by teams of Surrey teachers. The continuum explores a scope and sequence of oral language, writing, phonics and phonemic awareness foundational skills which both research and teacher expertise have shown to critically impact young children getting on the road to proficient literacy abilities. Alongside the continuum are goals for the end each grade (K-2) plus assessment tools to monitor progress of learners throughout the primary years.

The goal of the session is to provide information about the continuum, how it can support collaboration across your primary teaching team, and guide literacy instruction in early primary classrooms.
