Students who have strong literacy skills can think critically, make meaning of a variety of texts, communicate effectively, and participate in society as thoughtful, informed citizens. Helping our students develop these skills is a shared responsibility across subject areas /disciplines. Disciplinary literacy is an extension of content area literacy that examines the differences in the way disciplines create, communicate, and evaluate information. We will focus on developing an understanding of disciplinary literacy and identifying strategies, routines, and tools to use in your classrooms.
