In this initiative, teams of three teachers from the same school will have the opportunity to work alongside a member of the Numeracy Helping Teacher Team to establish productive mathematics norms for the year. In their own classrooms and with their own learners, participants will observe three instances of Helping Teachers using highly-engaging tasks to model teaching practices from Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms framework. (Of course, the option to team-teach rather than observe is always present!)
Teams and the Helping Teacher will come together at the end of the day to discuss what they have learned. Between these experiences, teachers will "try on" these teaching practices for themselves with "good problems" selected by the Numeracy Helping Teacher Team. Participants must also attend one all-day workshop at DEC in early-October.
