A set of large letter cards is helpful for early primary teachers when teaching young children about the alphabetic principle. During whole and small group instruction, these cards can be used for explicit teaching and shared practice of phonemic awareness, alphabet names and corresponding sounds, and sound-spelling relationships

The size of the cards allows for children to see the letters clearly while in a whole group or invites participation in word chaining or word building movement activities. Each lowercase letter has its corresponding uppercase form on the reverse of the card.

*NEW in 2023*

Primary teachers looking for a set of cards beyond the alphabet may print a newly-created set which includes digraphs, common vowel patterns and r-controlled vowels. Download the cards HERE.

Make the cards:

1. Download and save the letter cards file. SD36 Alphabet cards.pdf

2. Select 'double-sided' when printing the cards to print the uppercase and lowercase forms of each letter card. Consider printing at a professional printer/office supply store on cardstock paper.

3. Cut the full-sized pages in half to create two cards.
