A set of letter cards is helpful for primary teachers when teaching young children about the alphabetic principle. During whole and small group instruction, these cards can be used for explicit teaching and shared practice of phonemic awareness, sound-spelling relationships (also known as "phoneme-grapheme correspondences") and decoding.

- A set of cards including each letter of the alphabet can be downloaded here: SD36 Alphabet Cards

- A set of cards including the alphabet letters, plus additional graphemes (such as digraphs, common vowel patterns and r-controlled vowels) can be downloaded here: SD36 Extended Grapheme Cards

Make the cards:

1. Download and save the letter cards file.

2. Select 'double-sided' when printing the cards to print the uppercase and lowercase forms of each letter card. Consider printing at a professional printer/office supply store on cardstock paper.

3. Cut the full-sized pages in half to create two cards.
