INVITATION FOR LEARNING
CONNECT to the birds you read about and possibly have seen in your community
- Think about the different body parts of a bird (wings, feet, beak, tail, head and body) How are they different and/or the same from your body? Draw or describe the differences and similarities to a family member, friend or your favourite stuffed animal
- How do birds move their bodies?
- How do birds stretch their bodies?
- What do you think a bird looks like, how does it move, while it makes a nest?
EXPLORE what it would be like to be a bird
- Can you flap your wings like a bird? See how it feels to walk through your home or around your community flapping your beautiful wings
- Can you describe how your body feels when you run and flap your arms?
- How do your legs feel when you run?
- Can you try running fast? Can you try running slow? Which is easier running slow or fast?
- Some birds walk and some birds jump with two feet at the same time. How high can you jump? Can you jump 3 times in a row? How many times can you jump without stopping? Is it easier to jump on two feet or hop on one foot? Now try hopping on the other foot, which is easier? Your right foot or your left foot?
- Can you find different items to jump over in your house or in your community? Try jumping over a crayon or a pillow
- Birds also like to balance on tree branches, can you balance on your right foot? Can you balance on your left foot? Count how long you can balance on each foot
- Can you show a family member 3 different ways you can move your body that a bird can’t?
