DISTRICT USE: APPROVED
- This resource is approved for K - 12 classroom use in the Surrey School District
DESCRIPTION
Lynx is a cloud-based programming environment for learners to create sophisticated projects across the curriculum. This text-based language supports computational thinking for all without the idiosyncrasies of other languages, such as Python or JavaScript. Best of all, Lynx is built upon a fifty year tradition of designing programming environments for learning. Think of Lynx as the next step from block-based coding tools! Projects made with Lynx are easily shareable.
TOOLS & FEATURES
Lynx coding can be used on a Mac, PC, Tablet, IPad. Features numerous help documents and videos. It also includes sample projects. The classroom teacher can create a club for students so that their projects can be shared with members within the club.
PROTECTION OF INFORMATION GUIDELINES
- Personal information is requested but is optional. Users can (and should) use Nicknames instead of real names. Email addresses are only required if a user wants to subscribe to the Lynx Coding newsletter.
- The exception is a mandatory request for both Gender and Postal Code - a requirement for Canadian Users only. This is linked to a federal government subsidy of the platform for all Canadian residents. I recommend that all students use the School Postal Code instead of their home postal codes, since postal codes can be tied to physical addresses.
- The service is hosted in Canada and can be used by students with a signed media release consent form.
