DESCRIPTION
Children and youth need opportunities to process the harsh realities of systemic and interpersonal racism in safe learning communities. They need routes to understanding that care for their young minds and hearts, while also acknowledging their capacity and responsibility as change makers. Texts shared here are invitations for children to engage with elements of these complex issues while creating space to respond in meaningful ways. These resources are intended to support a facet of your anti-racism work, spark conversations about instructional materials, class libraries and more. Please see Surrey Schools One literacy lesson sets for writing opportunities, discussion structures, and responses to reading that will support your learners as they delve further into these issues.
This resource is a sway developed by Surrey Schools Literacy Helping Teacher, Celine Feazel.
