Any time you are reading a story with your child is an opportunity to name, explore and normalize emotions. For example, if you are reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears, you might ask, “How is Goldilocks feeling when she sees the bears have come home?” “How do you know?” “A time I felt this is when …” “When is a time you have felt that way?”
This week, read or listen to your child’s favourite story while making explicit the emotions that live within it. Be sure to check-in several times as you read to draw awareness to how the character’s emotions change throughout the story.
