Name that Feeling

GVZOO Animals

Label feelings you are seeing in your child throughout the day, while reading a book or watching a movie. Once children have the language, move to asking how they feel in different situations.

Encourage your child to tell you about themselves. Ask them questions like, “What are three things you like to do outside?” “What is something that makes you happy?” “What are four things you like to eat?”

Talk about different feelings and what might be causing them. For example, if you child is upset because they can’t play on playgrounds, you might say: “You are feeling sad. Is it because we can’t go to the park today?”
