Governance

Indigenous governance is the right of Indigenous peoples to self-determination, allowing them to govern their own communities according to their own cultures, traditions, and values. It can refer to both traditional systems and modern self-government agreements negotiated with the government of Canada. These Indigenous governance systems continue to thrive and adapt, offering powerful models of leadership rooted in community consensus, environmental stewardship, and spiritual balance. They are essential expressions of self-determination and sovereignty, reminding us that Indigenous laws are not relics of the past, but living, evolving systems of law and governance that guide Indigenous nations today.
