With the news of Thomas King being non-Indigenous, some people may be wondering how this will effect their teaching practice.  Is it appropriate to teach students about Indigenous people through text written by someone who is non-Indigenous?   The Surrey School District no longer supports the use of Thomas King's books and anthologies as teaching tools for students.  If you are wanting to know more about how or why it is harmful to learn about Indigeneity from non-Indigenous people, please read the articles and watch the videos below.  These articles and videos feature prominent Indigenous people that give their opinions, thoughts, and explanations on this topic.
