We acknowledge that our district is on the shared, unceded, traditional territory of the Katzie, Semiahmoo and Kwantlen Nations.
The purpose of this website is to support teachers in embedding Indigenous content and perspectives throughout the curriculum. It offers links, lesson plans, and information about authentic resources. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list, but rather a starting point for educators seeking to meaningfully integrate Indigenous content across all areas of learning.
The Surrey School District Indigenous Education Department is committed to going beyond traditional forms of support by fostering a deep and authentic integration of Indigenous perspectives, histories, and ways of knowing throughout the education system. The department works collaboratively with partners to build genuine connections with Indigenous communities and cultures.
The Indigenous Helping Teachers play a vital role in this work, focusing on curriculum development and implementation to ensure learning experiences are inclusive and reflective of authentic Indigenous worldviews. Through their leadership, educators are empowered to create classrooms where all students can engage with Indigenous knowledge in respectful, relevant, and impactful ways.
